Biggest Mcdonald's ever in the works

With the 2012 Olympic summer games taking place in London next year, McDonald's is moving in along with them.

Having been a sponsor since 1976, the Golden Arches are essential in development of this sort.
"Faster. Higher. Stronger."
And they mean it.  To a crazy new level.
In the works is a 32,000 square foot behemoth burger place, nearly half the length of a football field, with 1500 seats, and requiring in the area of 500 employees to function.

A couple other new locations are planned for the event, but nowhere near this glorious, I'm sure.

Amid all the burgering and capitalizing on the influx of hungry people, there's some obvious concern raised for health/medical issues involved with the delicious irony of this situation.
"Given the huge public health issues of childhood obesity," said parliament health committee member Grahame Morris in a statement, "it is legitimate to question whether having the world's biggest McDonald's at the Olympic Park is sending an appropriate message to our young people."

McDonald's manager punches customer

Title pretty much explains it...

A mother brought her autistic twins and service dog into the restaurant.  The off-duty manager became enraged at...the dog being in there for some reason.  Maybe some hidden phobia, or past trauma.  She proceeded to follow the mother around the restaurant, and then into the parking lot, where she punched the mother in the face.

Pretty drastic and random, but eh, maybe something more underlying?  Dunno, man.

The manager was charged, and fired.  Other employees attempted to restrain the manager from her Hulked-out rage.

Accidental drug smuggling

Bad things happen to good people.  It's been scientifically proven.  I think.

In this case, it's part of a trend, a pattern.  The victim?  A hardworking mother and teacher.  What happened?  She was targeted by drug smugglers because she crosses the Mexican-US border daily for work, like clockwork.

She teaches in Texas, and was scoped for a good bit of time.  Smugglers got keys made for her car, and slipped in 100 pounds of marijuana in two suitcases.  She was crossing the border, as if it were any other day, and was pulled over for inspection.  Normally, she keeps all belongings in the front seat for easy viewing by the border guards.

She'd never seen the suitcases before, and wasn't lying.

She wasn't the first victim, or the last, either.  As this occurred in Mexico, an operation over the border was being ran against the specific people who targeted her.

She spent a short time in jail, massive support was lobbied for her freedom, and information was garnered which exonerated her fortunately.  I guess good things can happen to good people, too.

Pretty sure the entire scenario is like an extremely bad dream for anyone.

Fining pedestrians for texting and walking

In Philadelphia, pedestrians caught texting while walking will be subject to a $120 fine.  It's not the only infraction warranting the fine, but it's the silliest one that stands out.

Others, related to being disrespectful and commonsensical etc, are part of an attempt by the city to enforce respectful behavior in public places...or something.

Multitasking is a pain anyway, man, geez.  Keep it simple.

Air Canada loses lawsuit...lol

The company lost a lawsuit over a stewardess failing to speak the required 'mother tongue'.

It's company policy for workers to be able to use English or French when requested.  In this case, a baggage announcement was made solely in English.  Also, the couple that sued were unable to find someone that was able to speak French on the flight.

The couple are fluent in both languages.  Sticklers for their native tongue, and completely asinine to boot, they were awarded money because it's company policy.  And they've done something similar in the past.

They attempted to sue for $500,000 Canadian, but managed somewhere around $12,500 American.

Oh, America's Hat.

Condoms not mandatory for filming porn in L.A.

A court ruling says that the L.A. county health officials do not require films of hardcore pornography to use condoms for the prevention of AIDs.  They're not prohibiting it, but they're not making it a requirement either.

I would've thought people just had the common sense to use something like a condom in the prevention of AIDs anyway.

Lemonade Stand Shut Down by Georgia Police

Selling lemonade is serious business.  You need permits, you need certification, you need papers, man.  This is straight pedigree material and we can't have anyone flipflopping their way through the system trying to serve illegitimate lemonade.  Nope, it's a health hazard.  A safety hazard.  A threat to our national way of life.

You heard it, folks.  Selling lemonade is serious business.  So serious in fact that police officers in Georgia shut down the lemonade stand of three young terroristic-looking girls trying to save money for a "water park".  I'm sure this is street slang for fat illegal drugs, or briefcase bombs.  Either or, these brave police officers managed to stifle this threat on the first day of operation.

Kudos!  The public is a much safer place.

Informed they needed a business license, a peddler's license, and a food permit to operate, the evil little girls promptly shut down shop.  For good.  You can sleep easy tonight.

Costs for the permits run in the neighborhood of 50$ per day, or 180$ per year.

Wife removes husband's willy...

In California, a wife drugged her husband, tied him down, and removed his...willy.  Then proceeded to put it in the garbage disposal...

Dunno what he did to her, but that's pretty intense.  I guess marriage counseling can't fix everything.

It's reported he'll be ok.  No word on the condition of his...willy.

Intense.

130 year old tortoise dies in South Dakota!

Spanning generations, this beloved tortoise named Methuselah, passed on.

A popular attraction for young and old alike, the tortoise would give piggyback rides to children of all ages...not tortoiseback rides.

Polygamy and TLC

TLC has been running a show for some time called Sister Wives.  I've never heard of it before.  But apparently it's causing a bit of a ruckus.

The show deals with a man and his four wives.  Yep.  Four wives.  The theme of the show is polygamy.  And they're attempting to show you they're not the typical monstrous polygamists you read about in the news etc.  The ones that rape children on secretive compounds etc.

So I guess they're 'normal'...

I won't be the judge of that.  Can't be!

But, they are being brought to court for breaking Utah law regarding marriage etc.  And it's resulted in a bit of moral hullabaloo from both sides.  Freedom and privacy vs. 'immoral and unacceptable sexual activity'.

Hamilton says there have been more than 100 challenges to polygamy laws, including in Utah, and all have failed.

Mary Jane has no medical use, say the feds

Despite being approved for medicinal uses in some states, the federal government declined it has any medical purposes.  Studies around the globe have been determining it has certain applications in the medial field for treatments, but the government still refused to approve.

Advocates involved are glad they weren't stonewalled indefinitely and are finally able to appeal to the courts now that a ruling has been passed.

Sham marriages for money and such

Three marines are being charged in California for entering into sham marriages simply to collect housing funds.

Started by a lesbian marine and her civilian partner, males were found, and married, so funds only offered to married couples could be collected.  In this case, the term marriage is only being applied to the bonding between a man and a woman.
Even after the military officially drops its ban against openly gay or lesbian members, same-sex couples, even if married, would still not be eligible because of a federal law defining marriage only as between a man and a woman.
It's breaking the law, but as a result of necessity, as they couldn't afford housing costs otherwise.

Indonesian volcano eruption, goes by one name

Mt. Soputan erupted!  It's been about three years since the last time it's done this.  But luckily no one was injured!  What with having all villagers nearby being outside the relevant danger zone.

Suspected dramatization of real events.
Local state vulcanologist diva, Surono, who goes by only one name, confirmed lack of injuries.

The eruption shot gas nearly 20,000 feet in the air!

Really!
